Spicy Moves

A few years ago, I painted a commission for a family and they had a parrot. It was a very beautiful bird, and it was very loud. Because of this, the cage was outside during the summer days.

While I was talking with the family about the painting I would be doing for them, I could hear the bird repeating everything we were saying. At least that's what I thought. I expressed my amazement at the super smart bird. The woman told me that the bird wasn't that smart, in fact it was mocking her voice. After listening closely, the bird only "spoke" after the woman spoke. Not with words but with a high pitched "I'm totally making fun of you" voice.

I thought it was fascinating! She thought it was part of the monotony in her day.
